The serial number puts the production as 1918 according to Coltautos.com, and the UNITED STATES PROPERTY stamp would seem to indicate that it was a military weapon. However, the right side of the slide does not show the usual “MODEL 1911 US ARMY” I’ve come to expect.
It always seem to happen when I'm out of town...., I'm traveling on business, and looked at a military Colt 1911A1 on my lunch break today.
So.....my books aren't with me and I'd really appreciate some help with two questions.
Serial 1155xxx.
First, the slide is not numbered under the firing pin plate.
From what I've been able to quickly determine, I believe the cut-off point is fairly close to this serial.
Would this slide be ok for the serial?
Second, the finish looks to be a fairly smooth phosphate. Is this ok for the serial number?
Any fast help would be GREATLY appreciated.
